Because the closest spot I can go do some target practice is in a gravel pit. We went out today and there was probably a foot of snow out to where we were going. On the plus side, my aim is still pretty good.

There’s also something comical about the thought of someone driving an Outback out to a rural gun range. Seems very anti-Subaru.

A p ink 2002 Thunderbird driving to a rural gun range would be comical (and probably a bit dangerous)

In terms of being able to make or people’s opinion of me.

Hey, gun nuts can appreciate the capability of a Subaru as well as anyone. I personally know at least one.

Isn’t all of Saskatchewan a gun range? Just fire your gun out the window on the grids. You’re not going to hit anything

Probably the latter. You’ll be the manliest thing  within a 10 mile radius.

I don’t know about anti-Subaru. I feel like I’ve met people from many walks of life who enjoyed firearm s. Just not all of them have the luxury of being open about it with those around them .

Though I guess I haven’t seen a ton of Subarus in the parts of the rural US I’ve lived in or visited regularly . While the cars themselves might be practical for getting around in areas where  snowplows don’t run , there were no dealerships or parts nearby and I’m not sure the value is where it would have to be for a lot of the people living there .

Yeah, my current location is definitely a factor in getting a Subaru or not. More remote, I’ll be getting something more robust.

I thought any crown land was free game for shooting guns? Did you get to play with an SKS? I feel like that is the most oppo firearm

We use the town’s gravel pit. Easy to have a backdrop and not interfere with hunters/farmers by accident.

I shoot a Smith and Wesson 9mm and a C8. The C 8 (or Ar-15, whatever) is an amazing platform.

I can confirm that there are no “shooting sports” options for the ownership badges in the US. That gives me an idea for a few additional badges...

I wonder how quickly I can get a cease and desist.. .

The VZ58 needs more love. It i s like an SKS and an AK had a baby. Its lighter, milled and you can use both magazines and stripper clips with it. The bolt holds open on the last round too.

Depends.  We're you wearing L.L. Bean, Eddie Bauer, Columbia, The North Face, or Land's End?

Back in my youth, I’d take my 2nd generation Trans Am out to the range at the nearby national forest. That was over dirt and gravel forest roads with a big mud pit about halfway through. Positraction never failed to get me through. Truly, the roads weren’t that bad, but there were rutted and washboard areas that made the tightly sprung TA shake and rumble.

A recent photo which doesn’t help my case.

The range as it is recently. Looks about the same as 30 years ago.  Every few years they try to erect target stands, but they get shot down fairly quickly.  As soon as the cross members get shot away, people prop targets against the poles that were sunk into the ground and those get shot off at ground level.

What generation of Outback? Many of the smaller Subarus have aftermarket lift options, combined with slightly larger wheels, they can rival many mild Jeep Cherokee builds for ground clearance.

If all you want is a rough second vehicle that can off-road and get you to whatever plot of dispare you call a range that day, consider an old and beaten Toyota Tacoma, or Chevy Tahoe. If replacing the Subie, maybe shop newer and better, so that the usable life is longer.

I drive a Fiesta ST, looking to replace with a new Outback XT.

Old beaten Tacomas are still expensive. The Tahoe I occasionally drive for work, and ehhh it’s alright.

Nah...John Rambo and I are from the same state, and Subies work great out here as  target practice rigs.
